How important is the NFL columbine?

Should you rate a player on how far he throws, how how fast he runs or rate him by his game film? but it obviously affects the player on what round he might get drafted, thats for sure.

It is soooo over-hyped. Just because someone puts up good numbers at the combine, it does not necessarily mean they will be a star in the NFL like in college.

Well it's combine XD Columbine was a tragic school shooting. I'd say it's fairly important, but not all that matters. I mean, Brady looked terrible at his combine and look where he is now.
the combine is a good tool to use for breaking ties you have for certon players. If you have players A and B at the same position tied as far as how much u like him u can break that tie bye things like speed and power and wonderlick tests depending on what position hes playing.
It's kind of important. Teams in the NFL draft based on accuracy and arm strength. Sometimes, the combine isn't accurate. Look at Tom Brady, he was drafted in the 6th round and he goes on to lead the Patriots to 3 super bowl wins.
its pretty important, it is used in combination with game film because if the player has the physical tools to succeed then they might be worth more than someone who dose not have the tools to succeed on the next level but did good in collage
i think it is like half and half you got to at least know what potential you can have. that allows teams to see if a guy is worth trading up for.just look at trent edwards last year. you know you can call me bad but id do just enough to get in so i wouldnt go to a sorry or rebuilding teamid take my chances with a winner.and then after winning for a few years id go for the money.

i would say it is over-hyped, but in the NFL u need skill and athleticism, Cromartie of the chargers would have been drafted much lower, although i was one of the few after seeing him in the combine that was DAMN!!! i want that guy, and look how it's turned out, but never put too much on the combine, the guy has to have intangibles ( Ryan leaf is an EX who didn't)

It is useful, for measuring physical ability..... but it is way overrated, since it can't measure drive, motor, instincts, etc.

Plus, most of the top prospects don't even work out anymore. They are too scared it might hurt their draft status. Same reason most opt out of the Sr. Bowl.

Personally, I feel both should be mandatory. But I think they shouldn't be as important as game film.

The combine gives coaches and scouts a general idea of a players abilities. Teams go over everything before a player is drafted, game film, how they performed at the combine, personal workouts, attitude, work ethic, everything.
